Tell us about how you learnt to ski- were you a downhill racer in a speedy race suit, or was freeriding more you thing?
I learned to ski the whole mountain, but as I got older decided that I wanted to start ski racing because it was awesome! I raced all through high school and entered my first big mountain comp when I was 17. I never looked back
What do you when you aren’t climbing mountains and hunting for powder?
I love to mountain bike, lift, trail run, cook, and read
Greenland represented one of the few unexplored, and truly adventurous places on the planet. The environment in Greenland is also constantly changing, The glaciers and ice sheet we see on this trip may not be there in the next 50 years. It called to me as a last frontier kind of place.
What most scares you about the upcoming expedition?
That is really tough. For me, there are so many unknowns that it is hard to feel scared of any one thing. It’s like walking into a classroom where they are discussing something you know nothing about, you don’t even know what questions to ask. There are so many different elements on this trip that I never tied together – open water sailing, skiing, orienteering, that right now it’s just exciting!
What are you most excited about?
Sailing into beautiful fjords and picking out which lines we want to ski! I’m also really excited for the open water sail!
Why do you think this expedition is important?
I think this expedition sends the message that we can continue to explore and ski without putting a huge strain on our carbon footprint. In a lot of ways, I think it brings us back to our roots with adventuring and putting us back in touch with the planet.
What are you hoping to take away from the project?
I’m hoping to take away the adventure of a life time and a new appreciation for what this planet has to offer us.
Any other interesting fact about you:
We may be on a boat, but there will still be dance parties.
